Funeral Day

2020 March 26

Created by Deborah 4 years ago
Just fourteen of us gathered yesterday in tiny groups and alone under a beautiful blue sky to say goodbye to dad (Barry). Dad had chosen his wicker coffin a couple of years ago and this was covered with a Pompey flag and two floral tributes; one from the family and the other from the Valerie, Justin, Nick and William White and their families in Australia and Tasmania.Due to Coronavirus, the service was held outside the Hall and lead by celebrant Nick Underwood, who spoke words supplied by Catherine (mostly) and Deborah. Although we tried to keep to the original service, not being able to be inside meant that we didn't get to hear Tony Bennett and Jerusalem. We then moved to the graveside where Nick read a final poem before we said our last goodbyes. It was strange to then disburse in our little groups and go our separate ways without the opportunity to toast the life of a much loved father and friend. We are thankful to have had the opportunity to say goodbye, as it might not be something that many people will be able to do over the next few months.
